1874 Type 1 Canteen Kit - Indian wars.
I built up a bulk order of 1874 Type 1 canteens for the QM Department, US Cavalry School, and have a few manufacturing items leftover. It’s pretty much impossible to buy pre-made canteens for 1872-1878, so I build them up from scratch.
What you get is:
1. Tan wool cover w/ an extra wool liner stitched in (I make all mine with an extra layer to help prevent evaporation, help insulate coolness, and the folds hide the seams).

The Chambers buckle and strap can be purchased from S&S Firearms and you can either buy one of the few 1872 stopper chain updates I have left or build one from scratch from Amazon materials.
The wool cover I use closely matches the fabric dynamics and pattern of an original I have.
TIP: I like to soak in and dry a coffee based weathering mix to the strap and cover after it’s all done to add a good weathering effect that continues to repeat itself with every filling for a good filthy look.
