    Description

    On offer here is an
attractive, antique cover, for a shaving Cream jar which is commonly referred to as a "pot lid" in collecting circles
    .
    This lid comes with an
    ebony stand
    .
    History
    :
As you can see from the transfer print on the lid face, this lid was produced for
    "
    Glenn & Co., PHILADELPHIA
    "
. I have dated this item to
    1860-70
because the son of the founder (Glenn)closed this family business in
    1871
. Now, of course, there was usually some overlapping with the new owners of the business using the former owner's product stock, but we cannot be certain of that.
So, this item may well have been used in the
    Civil War years
    !
Lid only is offered in this auction. No base section provided. Please read condition report for full description of condition.
The lid measures 3 5/8" in diameter. Super item of
    AME
    RIC
    ANA
to display, or to add to a collection!

AFTER WWI THEY BECAME OBSOLETE AS MORE MODERN AND ECONOMICAL FORMS OF PACKAGING REPLACED THEM.   THE RECOVERY AND COLLECTING OF THESE OLD PIECES HAS BECOME A POPULAR, WORLD-WIDE HOBBY, AND A QUAINT REMINDER OF A BYGONE ERA.         BE ASSURED, YOU ARE BIDDING ON A GENUINE AND AUTHENTIC PERIOD PIECE.
