    Description

    On offer is this
    PRATTWARE pot lid
which seems to be quite rare (
rated as RR- VERY RARE RATING
) in Mortimer's reference book.  This is also a
    VERY EARLY lid
    ....probably mid-19th century??
    Interesting features
    . It has
    FOUR alignment dots
(North/South & East/West) on the face of the lid....this many alignments is
    unusual
    . The lid is also
    marbled
    AND
some of the clothing of the character's in the scene, have been
    hand-painted
before this lid was glazed and fired! It was difficult to "pick-up" the hand painted articles of clothing with the camera, but I tilted the lid to the side, to catch the sunlight which helped to identify the hand-painted items in the scene, except for one lady's dress. (see pic. 6 ) So the hand-painted items of clothing are, the Butler's jacket;  the gentleman with the blue coat; and the lady with the green dress on the other side of the table, which did not show in pic.6.
The lid is large size, & measures 5 1/4" in diameter. No base provided. The lid is domed. This lid is
    valued at between
    5-250
in Mortimer. Because of it's good condition and early production I have listed it at more on the lower end of valuation.

Great collector's piece for the more discerning collector of Prattware!
FOR VIEWERS WHO MAY NOT BE FAMILIAR WITH THESE DELIGHTFUL LIDDED JARS....THEY WERE USED BETWEEN APPROX. 1840-1920 TO MARKET VARIOUS PRODUCTS WHICH CAME IN A PASTE FORM. AFTER WWI THEY BECAME OBSOLETE AS MORE MODERN AND ECONOMICAL FORMS OF PACKAGING REPLACED THEM.   THE RECOVERY AND COLLECTING OF THESE OLD PIECES HAS BECOME A POPULAR, WORLD-WIDE HOBBY, AND A QUAINT REMINDER OF A BYGONE ERA.         BE ASSURED, YOU ARE BIDDING ON A GENUINE AND AUTHENTIC PERIOD PIECE.
