A handsome solid necktie in dark matte brown (slightly less red than in photos). An excellent choice for toning down patterned jackets! 100% rayon gabardine, made by L. Mayers & Son in Baltimore, MD for its Park Avenue collection, c.1940s. Excellent vintage condition.
    L. Mayers & Son, as of 1993, was one of Baltimore’s oldest surviving neckwear manufacturers, occupying a space in the landmark Abell Building on the corner of Baltimore and Eutaw Streets. Begun by Louis Mayers (1865-1963) in 1894 as a blue serge suit manufacturer, it left Baltimore for New York following the Great Fire of 1904 but returned in 1910 with a new focus on neckwear. His son David Oswald (1893-1990) operated the company from his father’s retirement in the early 1920s until 1990.
