The lead vessel in her pre-WW I class of two battleships, she was commissioned in 1912. She served in the British Grand Fleet between August 23 and December 14, 1918, including one sweep of the North Sea. On December 7, 1941 she was moored solo off Ford Island and was attempted to leave the harbor after being struck by one enemy torpedo and two or three bombs. She was struck again and was beached on Hospital Point. Gutted forward, she lost 50 killed and 109 wounded. Re-floated on February 12, 1942 she was repaired and served in both the Atlantic and Pacific for the remainder of WW II. She earned seven Battle Stars and survived the Bikini atomic bomb test of July 1946. Finally, she was sunk as a target off Hawaii on July 31, 1948.
