Description
USS NORTHAMPTON CC-1 United States Navy National Command Ship first daycover postmarked from Kansas City, MO on January 27, 2019. Blue printed photo
of actual ship on cachet #9030 by Alvin Eckert, USCS #9964.
This 677 foot Northampton Class heavy cruiser was converted from the CA-125 hull
into a tactical Command Ship CLC-1 and commissioned 7 March 1953.
After serving with the 6th Fleet in the Med. she was re-designated a National
Command Ship CC-1 in 1961 and served in the western Atlantic until 1970.
Cover franked with a 55 cent US Flag stamp (FDOI) and 3 cent USN stamp from 1946.
