USS UTAH BB-31 United States Navy Ship memorial cover honoring
Pearl Harbor 1941 Ships. This 621' Florida Class battleship, was commissioned
in 1911. She had been considered obsolete in 1931 and was converted into a
radio-controlled target ship. On December 7, 1941 she was moored on the opposite
East side of Ford Island from Battleship Row. She was struck by an enemy torpedo
and this caused her to roll over and sink. Some of her crew were trapped inside and
were rescued by cutting holes in the exposed hull. The enemy pilots had mistakenly
identified her as a valuable fighting ship. She was never raised and remains a rusty
hulk memorial in Pearl Harbor Today her memorial is only visited by naval history buffs.
See her web pages to see the details of her design, construction and service history.
