    Description

Up for auction is a very old, circa 1900, Native American Rivercane basket with natural dyes.  The basket was sold to me as a Chitimacha, but after receiving the basket and examining it more closely, I'm not sure this is correct (the hem doesn't look right to me),  I think it is more likely Cherokee or Choctaw.
There are two areas where the basket was compressed and some of the canes have broken (see photo's 7 and 8), otherwise in excellent condition for its age.  Made by a master basketmaker that could work with extremely small rivercane splints in the bottom and vertical framework.  See pictures for dimensions and condition.  Please ask all questions before bidding.
    Dimensions:  Bottom-10-1/2" x 7-1/2"    Diagonal 13"
    Top-10-3/8" x 9-1/4"   Diagonal 10-3/4"
    Bottom and vertical splints: 3mm
Horizontal dyed splints: 4 and 5 mm
Buyer pays .99 shipping to Contiguous United States.  Basket will be shipped within 2 days of receiving payment.  Thanks for viewing my listing.
